How she has worked to stand out this season

Senior basketball player Asiah Baxter is making a name for herself when it comes to playing a sport and handling school. Baxter is able to do it all and keep up with the many things for which she is responsible.

“Keeping up with basketball and school is pretty easy. You’ll always find time to do your work regardless. Coaches give you time, but also [it takes] time on your own to get it all done,” Baxter said.

Baxter is not only a team player, but she has an impact on her teammates. She is uplifting and spreads positive energy for her peers on the court. Baxter does her best to be a leader in order for her team to keep their energy up so they can win games.

“I impact my teammates by having goofy energy and leadership. I know if my energy is off my teammate's energy will be off so just keeping the energy up makes a big impact,” Baxter said.

Baxter stays motivated by wanting to give her best so that she can win the games she and her team play. She keeps up with that thought process so that she can make it happen. One of the main skills Baxter brings to the court is being a rebounder but she would like to hold a different position to do more to help the team.

“Wanting to win and having that winning mindset keeps me motivated. I’ve been a rebounder all four years I’ve been here so if I had to pick one thing it would be getting the boards for the team,” Baxter said.

One major accomplishment for Baxter was that she and the team were able to defeat Lawrence North. She was able to make this happen by getting her teammates to come together and give all their effort to score.

“Beating Lawrence North was a pretty big accomplishment. Making sure everyone was involved in a great team win just felt right when playing them,” Baxter said.

One of Baxter’s biggest achievements was being able to score a game-winning shot against Center Grove. She was very ecstatic about this because she stood out, had all her team's support, and had good sportsmanship.

“A memorable moment as a player is a sophomore year, hitting a game-winner over Center Grove. Always something that stood out to me, just having my team believe in me and executing the play,” Baxter said.

One of the goals that Baxter is working on obtaining for ending this season strong is keeping up their higher scores and making everyone get a winning mindset. She wants to have the team to work together and be motivated so they can be better and stronger than they were before.

“Keeping our spirits high. Making sure everyone wins regardless, offensively or defensively. At the end of the day it’s about the team and making sure we’re the strongest we can be,” Baxter said.
