Paramore's new album, “This is Why”

After six years, Paramore is back with their newest album, “This is Why.”

Fans are excited, as the band has been on a hiatus since 2017, after there was a death in band member Taylor York’s family. While filming the band's music video for “Rose-Colored Boy,” York said “I started balling. I didn’t know I had the capacity until that moment. We realized nothing was worth risking our health.” The band canceled many of their shows for their album “After Laughter,” before deciding to take their first break. In the meantime, Hayley Williams, the lead singer of the band, started her own music career away from the band and released two albums of her own called “Petals for Armor,” and “FLOWERS for VASES / descansos.” She also co-founded a hair dye company called “Good Dye Young.”

People were not a fan of the band's last album, “After Laughter.” It sounds like many alternative songs today have mixed beats from 1980s. It wasn’t the same sound many people grew up with. Their most famous album is “Riot.” This album is what made them the well-known band they are today. This album features songs like “That’s what you get”  and “crushcrushcrush,” but their most famous song to this day is “Misery Business,” which has received some controversy because of a very problematic line. The band put the song to rest during one of their last shows before they broke up. Later, during Billie Eilish's Coachella performance in Indio California, she brought out Williams as her special guest performer and they brought “Misery Business” back to life.

Many fans were excited about this new album because, from the look of the cover art, they thought they would be returning to their old pop-punk roots. That is not the case at all. Instead, they are going for more of an alternative rock sound this time. On Sept. 16, 2022, the band announced their first new single in four years, "This Is Why," which was released on Sept. 28, 2023. They also performed the single on “The Tonight Show.” They also released two other songs from the album called “The News” and "C’est Comme Ça," which is French for “That’s just the way it is.”

For fans of new alternative music or just old fans of Paramore, listen to their new album “This is why.” They are also going on tour to many different cities and states including Indianapolis. They will be here June 5 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Downtown Indianapolis.
