As the season wraps up and the final performances are coming to an end, choir students share how they felt about the season from end to beginning.
Some students shared what they learned and what they grew to appreciate while being in the choir, including making new friends and sharing laughs and memories.
As a first year choir student, SaVannah Watson shares her experience.
“My experience has been really fun and informative because I get to experience all these things for the first time with all my friends. My school year has been so much better with choir compared to all my past years because it just adds something to look forward to in my day,” Watson said.
Watson says that she has learned far more in choir then she would in a regular classroom.
“I have learned how to sight read, how to better read music, vocal exercises, vocal health, breath control, and a lot of other things,” Watson said.
Another student to share their story is also a first year student, senior Ronni Watson. Watson says that she has always had a love for music, specifically acapella, and has been performing since a young age. Ronnie started high school in theater for three years and during her senior year, she switched to 16th Street Soul.
“ I didn’t even know there was an acapella group in Warren. I have loved acapella since I was around 11 years old so when I found out at the end of my junior year, I immediately wanted to join and share my talent,” Ronni said.
Fourth year choir student Sophie Eastman shares her experience as well. Even having the most experience in choir, she has still learned a lot this year compared to other years. She's made new friends and learned new techniques.
“I have been in choir for all four years. My experience this year has been challenging and I have learned a lot more this year than all my other years combined. If I didn't have this class in my schedule, I probably would have gone crazy by now,” Eastman said.
All three students would agree that choir is definitely something every student should have the chance to experience, and would recommend that anyone who is interested in making music should join the choir.
“I would recommend anybody who is willing to put their all into it and it is literally so much fun. You make friends and you get to travel. It is an experience that I think every choir kid should have,” Ronni Watson said.
