Boys track team is competing at the highest level

The runners on the boy’s track team are, overall, feeling confident about their season so far. As they are preparing for their next meet, the team is practicing every day, building up their bodies and working on strength.

“I’m way ahead of where I was last year, which is a perfect start. We are working hard every day with conditioning and speed workouts to make us stronger,” Jaelyn Reeves said.

The team is working on focusing on certain skills to improve as far as being more determined to practice and keeping their mind in the right place so they can get better.

“Something my team can work on is putting in more effort when it comes to workouts and knowing when it’s time to focus,” Reeves said.

The team keeps each other motivated by talking and persuading each other. They also keep one another moving forward and not letting one another give up.

“We have certain people who can convince others to keep going even when they want to quit,” Reeves said.

Strategies the team has been putting in a lot of work and consistently going through training their bodies. They do a lot of difficult things during practice like exercises and warm-ups.

“We have to be able to push through the hard workouts even when we want to quit because that’s how we get better,” Reeves said.

A few things the boys plan on looking forward to are making more of their own achievements for the team. They also are working hard towards getting into the top five leaders of the ranks.

“We want to have more people set personal records and get top three placements with all the work we’ve put in,” Reeves said.

A few big game plans the boys have set forth are keeping their speed and making better record times, as well as giving it their all to get the wins.

“We need to keep getting stronger and faster so that everybody can drop good times and we can keep winning meets as a whole,” Reeves said.

A couple of other things the boys are working on getting better at would be getting their teammates to show up to their practices, giving their best effort, and keeping the right mindset.

“Some things the team can work on our consistency as in coming to practice, [being]locked in, always making sure we have a good mindset and mentality coming into practice every day,” track player Amarion Sanders said.

The boys push each other to keep trying and motivating them to accomplish their end goal.

Strategies that the boys follow are advice from the coach and any head administration over them as keeping their head in the game and giving their best.

“Staying on the same page and trusting in our coaching staff is the biggest thing,” Sanders said.

The team is looking towards their last few and biggest meets. The boys want to get as far as they can and possibly make state.

“We look forward to all our home meets, sectionals, and regionals because they will all be here and state of course because we are always looking at the bigger picture,” Sanders said.

Plans the boys have for the rest of the season are ending it off with making big accomplishments. They want to have been their best and show it off.

“To be one of the best teams in the state is always the goal to end off the season and even though we have a young team, that is not going to change,” Sanders said.
