Three wrestlers, on the Warren Central Wrestling team, made it to the last step of the season, the state finals. Only having 16 wrestlers in each bracket, these wrestlers are some of the best in the state and have put in the work to prove it.

“I worked and pushed myself even on the days I didn’t feel like doing anything,” sophomore Anthony Cashman said.

Cashman had an impressive run this year even though he is only a sophomore, making it past the “ticket” round at semi-state, in order to make it to the state finals.

“My favorite moment of this season was winning in the blood round of semi-state,” Cashman said.

Another wrestler, senior Tyler Jones, ended his high school career on a high note, finishing third in the state, after placing sixth and seventh the previous two years. Jones too enjoyed the semi-state rounds because of what he got to prove.

“My favorite moment was going to compete at semi-state. It was pretty fun [and] I shocked a lot of people,” Jones said.

Finally, sophomore Kyrel Leavell had the most exciting performance of them all, winning the state championship in the 120 lb weight class. His freshman year, he finished in third place, and that just encouraged him more this season along with all of his close friends and family.

“My practice partner Christian Arberry, family, [and] my coaches played a great role in me winning a state title,” Leavell said.
