Giles Davis is the new boys track and field coach for Warren Central. Coach Davis is very excited to be the coach for the boys track team and takes pride in the history and traditions of Warren Central.
“Warren Central has had a rich tradition in track and field. Numerous state titles, state champions, and athletes who have competed collegiately,” Davis said.
Davis is planning to continue the tradition that Warren Central has set for themselves over the decades and wants to have the opportunity to get the IHSAA state title.
“It’s the goal of my coaching staff to continue the tradition set by the previous coaching staff and compete for an IHSAA state title in the spring,” Davis said.
So far, Davis enjoys being the coach for boys track and field at Warren Central. Davis knows that Warren has all the resources that the boys on the team need to feel well supported.
“Warren Central has both an indoor and outdoor track, a world-class weight room with a certified strength coach, athletic trainers, and very supportive administration,” Davis said.
The resources given by Warren assures him that the boys track and field team have all the opportunity to do good this season such as completing that goal for the IHSAA state title.
Davis feels that his experience of teaching for so many years will provide the teachings and development of both athletic and life skills so that the boys can be successful.
“After coaching at the collegiate level for 30 plus years, this opportunity provides the chance to teach and develop both athletic and life skills necessary to be productive citizens,” Davis said.
Davis believes that he can steer the boys track and field team in the right direction along with the help of the teammates.
“The overall training program is comprehensive focusing on developing speed, strength, stamina, and suppleness. I have a diverse coaching staff who brings different perspectives and experiences to help to enhance the learning experience for the members of the team.”
Davis always makes sure to let it be known that he wants his team to ace in the classroom as much as they ace on the track.
“I want to inspire, I want to motivate, I want the young men to perform their best on the track and in the classroom,” Davis said.
Davis has set expectations for himself which are showing the young men on the team how they can use their talent to the best of their ability.
“My expectations are to continue to inspire and motivate these young men to utilize their talents and skills, to be the best student-athlete, to be the best citizen,” Davis said.
He wants to make sure that these young men on the track team train and compete with purpose and passion.
Coach Davis isn’t just yelling to yell during track practices, he yells because he cares and knows that the boys on the team can give a lot more.
“I coach with a lot of passion, my voice echoes throughout the fieldhouse after school,” Davis said.
Davis has a lot of passion and heart for the track and field team and wants the young men to feel the love and support.
“I want the young men to know and understand they are valued, loved by the coaching staff, not because of what they do, but because of who they are,” Davis said.
