Sequel to SEGA film released to public masses

Gotta go fast. “Sonic 2” is a sequel to the original 2020 remake of Sega’s mascot. Although it may seem childish to some who have never heard of the game “Sonic,” to adults young and old, this movie will be a blast of nostalgia.

The plot of the movie is small, but it does help in introducing two classic characters. The main premise is that Sonic, the fastest hedgehog in the world, wants to make his mark in it as a hero. Thanks to small clips from the trailer, Sonic gets his wish by fighting against Dr. Robotnik, who has returned from the mushroom planet in the last film with his game-style appearance. However, Robotnik has a few tricks up his sleeves, as he not only goes on a quest to gain the power of the Master Emerald-which was an ancient relic in the Sonic games that had the ability to turn thoughts into power-but also has hired help in the form of Knuckles the Echidna. Sonic is not alone on this adventure, as he is joined by his human companion Tom Wachowski, and his twin-tailed fox partner, Tails.

“Sega Corporation” is a Japanese gaming company that created and copyrighted Sonic as their leading mascot. They developed the idea of a blue hedgehog who can run at supersonic speeds as a way to gain the upper hand during “The Console Wars of 1993,” against their rivaling company Nintendo, who created their own mascot-an Italian plumber by the name of Mario. Many fans of Sega and Nintendo have made multitudes of media, depicting the two companies' mascots, engaging in high-octane battles and skirmishes against one another, that often ended one-sided or a tie.

The cast for the movie is perfect for recreating the sense of nostalgia in the film. Jim Carrey, a Canadian-American actor, and comedian makes a return to the role of Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Sonic’s number one human archenemy. Jim decided to reprise the role of Robotnik because he loved playing the role in the first film, and found it a delightful challenge to act as though he has a triple number I.Q. He also played roles in other movies, such as Ace Ventura in “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” Stanley Ipkiss in “The Mask,” Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come in “A Christmas Carol,” and Count Olaf, Dr. Stephano, and Captain Julio Sham in “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.” The American actor, comedian, writer, director, and producer Benjamin Schwartz, reprises his voice acting role as the blue speedster himself. He has acted and voice acted in many TV shows and movies besides Sonic 2, such as Randy Cunningham from “Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja,” Dewey Duck from “Ducktales,” Leonardo in “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Jean-Raphio Saperstein in “Parks and Recreation,” and Clyde Oberholt in “House of Lies” to name a few.

In short, “Sonic 2” is an absolute nostalgic avalanche for every fan of Sega’s number one mascot. The film has already been released on April 8, 2022, but it is still able to be seen in theaters, such as AMC Castleton Square, Regal UA Circle Center, and Landmark’s Glendale Theater to name a few.
