Eli Shaw, a junior baseball player at Warren Central, is going to be playing at the next level. He committed to playing baseball at Indiana University for the Hoosiers on March 22, and he has only continued to prove why he deserves this opportunity.

So far this season, Shaw has been a primary pitcher for the Warriors as well as playing Shortstop and being a huge factor at the plate. He hopes to continue playing at this high level and has specific goals to work towards.

“I definitely want to be all-conference, win six or more games on the mound, keep my ERA (earned run average) under two, and have a batting average above .350,” Shaw said.

His teammates also are better because of him. He is a big motivator for his peers and inspires people to do better on and off the field.

“My favorite thing about Eli is that he’s my friend. He inspires me because he throws gas and hits nukes,” junior Jordan Alexander joked.

Throughout this year, Shaw has embraced the new coaching staff and has become a main leader of the Warriors. A lot of people have become aware of his leadership and the effect that he has on others.

“Eli Shaw pushes me harder to play myself, helps me become a better player, pushes other players to be better, and he leads us,” sophomore Joshua James said.

He also recognizes that he is a leader himself and wants to be the best help he can be to contribute to the success of this team.

“Expectation for myself is to be the best leader I can for this team, expectations as a team [are] to compete every pitch, make the routine plays, play good fundamental baseball, and win or lose, compete to the end,” Shaw said.

When it comes to playing at the next level, Shaw has put in a lot of work in many areas to make sure all his goals become reality.

“I worked for it, constant time in the weight room, constant time in the classroom, constant training on my own and in practice, just making sure I’m doing something everyday to get better,” Shaw said.

Finally, Shaw knows that he has had a lot of support along this continuous journey through life, especially when it comes to his baseball career.

“There’s so many people that have been there along the way to support me but I’d have to say my biggest support has been my mom and dad, they’ve done so much for me [and] I can’t thank them enough, I wouldn’t be here today without them,” Shaw said.
