South Carolina 

Freedom day is commonly referred to as Juneteenth. Its the day remembered for Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation, which freed all the remaining slaves in Texas. The food typically served is special on this day because most of the food is red. Red  is used to represent the bloodshed of the enslaved Africans during the transatlantic slave trade. 

Out of the many foods for Juneteenth, one of them is crab rice. Crab rice is made up of crab meat, shrimp, bell peppers, Spanish rice mix, salt and pepper, and olive oil. It originated in the Bahamas but when the Europeans enslaved African Americans, it traveled to the Gullah region of the Southern part of the United States. A second interesting food from South Carolina is okra pilau. The main ingredients for okra pilau are white rice, bacon, onion, and sliced okra. It originated in South Carolina the time it originated is unknown but the dish has been around hundreds of years.

Tennessee 

Red drinks are a staple for Juneteenth and one of the most common drinks in Tennessee is hibiscus tea. The main ingredients for hibiscus tea are honey, fresh lime juice, fresh hibiscus flowers, and water. It started to get made around the 17th and 18th centuries. It would eventually come to America, where it is most popular in Central America and Hawaii. A food that is most commonly eaten on Juneteenth is red velvet cake. The ingredients for red velvet cake are cake flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, butter and oil, and buttermilk. The cake was made in the 1930s, in a hotel named the Waldorf-Astoria, a famous hotel in New York City.

             

California 

The most common food eaten is pork spare ribs. The way that you should season the ribs is by getting brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cinnamon, and celery salt. They started to be made in the Caribbean but when the Spanish Conquistadors came to the north of America, they came with their spices and their popularity grew. A food that will satisfy you after eating is hotlinks. The way to make hotlinks is to get a 20 feet hog casing, chili powder, granulated sugar, ground cayenne pepper, sweet paprika, cold beef chuck, and ground coriander seeds. They were first made by a Pittsburgh butcher named Charlie Hasselback who made them in 1897 but didn’t start to sell them until 1918.

Texas 

A refreshing drink for Juneteenth is strawberry soda. The way to make it on your own is to get strawberries, granulated sugar, water, and lemon juice. It was made by Faygo in 1907, being made to represent when the slaves learned they were free. The next drink is a very popular one named Big Red Soda. The main ingredients for this soda are carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caffeine, red 40, caramel color,  and artificial flavors. It was made in 1937 in a Waco laboratory, by Grover C. Thomsen and R.H Roark. It was mostly marketed in Central Texas and South Texas.
