One Acts have long been a huge part of theater culture, and for the first time in a while, Warren Central will be doing their own. A One Act is a short play that usually lasts around 20 to 30 minutes and is paired with multiple other acts to make a complete and enjoyable showing for the audience. Warren Central Theater has decided to put on four of these one-acts this winter, those being: “The Elf Rebellion,” “Mall Santa Saves The Day,” “Polar Twilight,” and “A Chaotic Christmas Carol.
The Elf Rebellion will be a 20 minute production that is sure to thrill and put people into festive and revolting spirits. The play is about a group of elves who go after the big man up top, Santa. They go after him because they are sick and tired of being paid in candy, having harsh working conditions, and no breaks. However, Santa won’t give up that easy as he devises tricky ways throughout the play to make some of the Elves break their strike and get back to the noble purpose of making presents for the happiest time of the year.
The second act may sound like a cheap rip off of “Paul Blarts Mall Cop,” but don’t worry, it won’t be. Mall Santa Saves The Day follows Bob, a small town mall santa, as he tries to escape financial problems by becoming a mall santa. However, he quickly learns that holiday entertainment misewell be the mean streets of Hollywood.
Polar Twilight is another play that deals with the hidden less jolly truth of Santa and who he is. It follows three candidates going for a PR position in the North Pole as they have to attempt to help maintain Santa’s jolly image to the public while simultaneously competing to see who wins the job.
A Chaotic Christmas Carol, a twist on a classic. It features characters from the classic “A Christmas Carol,” but instead Scrooge, a once hardened old man, is a determined do-gooder who accidentally messes things up. Additionally, it is a verse play which adds a unique and new style to it never seen before.
In addition to a night of four one acts there will also be a chance to meet the actors and the student directors at the end of the play. Each one act will be student directed by a different senior theater member.
Questions and interview with student directors:
What are you looking forward to the most for directing your one act?
Jaide Shroff (Mall Santa Saves Day): “I'm very excited to see the actors grow, be out of their comfort zone to experience the real joy of acting. I'm also excited because this is my first time ever directing! I just can't wait to see how all of this turns out!”
Lilly Trueblood (Elf Rebellion): “ What I’m looking forward the most to directing is the experience of getting to know my cast.”
Adrian Curtis (Polar Twilight): “I'm mostly looking forward to working with the actors and seeing the chemistry they have together. They're all taking in how they perceive their character so it'll be nice to see everyone's creativity and out looks come together.”
Brandon Young (A Chaotic Christmas Carol): “I’m looking forward to working with all the great actors and tech students we have in the theater department to put on the best performance we can of this unique twist and telling of the classic “A Christmas Carol” story.”
Next for the Warren Central Theater Troops is a production of Spongebob the Musical. A mix of new Spongebob flare from broadway and classic Spongebob traits straight from what you saw as a kid. This musical will be coming out during the early months of 2023 with the current target being late winter.
