The “God of War” series is one of the most popular gaming series that Playstation has ever released. The series has eight games, the oldest of which was made in 2005. The plot of the first six games is that of Kratos, a spartan warrior, was tricked by Ares, the original god of war, into killing his wife and daughter. After he kills them, their ashes are spread throughout his body, before then going on a mission of revenge to kill Ares. He then becomes the new “God of War,” before being tricked by his father, Zeus. Kratos seeks to kill his father and all the gods in Olympus in one of the later games in the series. In “God of War” (2018), the game switches from Greek mythology to Norse mythology. The plot of this game is after the death of Kratos’s second wife, he and his son Atreus go on a mission to fulfill her last request, which was for her ashes to be spread at the highest peak of all nine realms. Kratos tries his hardest to not let Atreus gain knowledge of his past and about them being gods throughout the whole game, but it was hard to do, so when a demigod named Baldur tries to kill the two of them, after being sent to do so by Odin. The reason he is sent is because Odin believes that Kratos and Atreus are going to bring Ragnarok and to find a cure of a curse that was given to him by his mother.
The main developers of this game are Santa Monica Studio, which was founded in 1999 by Allan Becker. This studio has made every game in the series. The other games they have made are “Kinecta,” “The Unfinished Swan,” “Journey,” and Starhawk.”
This sequel to God of War (2018) is going to take Kratos and Atreus on the journey to stop Ragnorak, which in Norse mythology is when there will be a final battle between gods, demons, and giants. This battle will end with all the gods dying and eventually will cause the destruction of the world. To stop this, they will have to fight gods like Thor, “The Norse God of Thunder,” and Tyr, “The Norse God of War.”
The developers wanted to make the game like the previous games in the sense that Kratos usually plays around with his enemies and he has a loose feeling when attacking. One of the new features to make Kratos have a loose feel is having the option to use signature moves with “The Leviathan Axe” and the “Blades of Chaos.” The Blades of Chaos are coming back after not being unusable in the last game. They are blades that Kratos gained after killing Ares “The Olympian God of War.” The Leviathan Axe was gifted to Kratos from the frost giant Laufey after she had passed away. A cool new feature is that the Olympian's shields will have more functions. One of the shields is called the dauntless shield, the shield will now allow to parry attacks and harness that energy to smash and stun your enemies when the shield turns red. The second shield is called the stonewall shield, this shield is going to primarily focus on longer combat. This will give Kratos the ability to absorb more damage during the fight and once the shield takes enough damage it will be able to release it onto the enemy.
This game will be a contender for game of the year just like the previous installment. This game would be great for gamers who are interested in gaming genres such as action-adventure, third-person hack and slash games.
