Say his name and he shall appear. “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is a new movie coming out for the DC Extended Universe and the sequel to the original film.
In the first film, viewers were introduced to the DCEU’s version of “Shazam,” showing his origins as an orphaned teenager named Billy Batson. He was given the powers of a mighty wizard after succeeding in becoming his champion. After learning his strengths and realizing he was not alone, he was able to defeat Dr. Sivanna, a person who became the champion for the seven deadly sins.
The new film’s ending is unknown, but the main premise is that Billy Batson is suffering from a form of existential crisis, after realizing he was having trouble balancing his normal life, academic life, and superhero life all at once. Later on, he and his siblings have to fight the daughters of the Greek Titan Atlas - Anthea, Herspera, and Kalypso - and stop them from creating a weapon that could destroy the world. The only way they can do this, however, is by making peace with the other gods after Billy took his powers for granted.
The film’s director, David F. Sandberg, is a Swedish filmmaker, best known for his collection of no-budget horror films under the online alias “ponysmasher,” such as the 2013 film “Lights Out” and a 2016 film of the same name. He has created many short films and a few movies in his time, which include “Annabelle: Creation,” “Ladyboy” and “Not Alone in Here.”
“Shazam! Fury of the Gods” is a great movie, showing viewers a hidden lesson in family, not abusing the power you have, and learning where you fit into the grand scheme of things. The movie comes out on Mar. 23, 2023, able to be watched in theaters and on HBO Max.
The soundtrack of the film is not known at the moment, but one of the songs used for its trailer can be identified as “Business,” a new song created by Eminem.
