Superintendent Update

February 4, 2026

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for your flexibility, resilience, and understanding during last week’s disruptions caused by snow and extremely cold temperatures. This was an unusual weather week, as both snow piles and prolonged cold created challenges throughout several days. Not to mention the power outages and water main breaks last Thursday. I appreciate everyone’s patience and partnership as we worked to keep students and staff safe.

As a reminder, the safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. To guide weather-related delays and closures, I rely on hourly forecast data and safety guidance from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA.GOV ) for our district zip codes. The following thresholds help inform those decisions:

Wind Chill

If the forecasted wind chill is −15°F or lower at 7:00 a.m., we will consider a two-hour delay. If the wind chill is forecasted to remain −15°F or lower at 9:00 a.m., we will consider closing schools for the day.

Extreme Cold Air Temperatures

If the forecasted air temperature is −10°F or lower at 7:00 a.m., we will consider a two-hour delay. If the temperature is forecasted to remain −10°F or lower at 9:00 a.m., we will consider closing schools for the day.

Linked here are our Inclement Weather Guidelines.

As a result of the inclement weather last week, we had to reschedule several events. Two of those events are being held tonight.
